I found the movie very interesting. A true romantic french love story about lovers crossed with a humorous drama. Honestly, I love foreign films but I just can't get into french films. I loved the cinematography, character development, even the quirky way that they described things that had nothing to do with what the storyline needed. Unfortunately I missed most of the action that was taking place on the screen, but made up for it by knowing the storyline. It's one of the downfalls of not knowing the native language in a foreign film.

Hi Jake,
ReplyDeleteThanks for posting!
Obviously this is an extremely short entry, please try to elaborate in the future for full credit. Also, these essays are to interpret the particular element we are discussing that period in class. For this one, focusing on mis-en-scene (setting, lighting, character, composition, and cinematography) by writing what kinds of things you are seeing, and attempting to interpret their use, or in other words trying to figure out why the filmmakers used those particular elements. Why did the sets look the way they did? Why those particular types of costumes? etc. Try to avoid writing your opinions, and just stick to interpretation. Also, the reason the film gives you tidbits of information about the characters which are extraneous to this story is to make them more complex, lifelike, and round - to give them a backstory so they seem more like real people.
